Shape our World – more than a summer camp
Our aspiration is that the Muskoka Woods experience “inspires youth to shape their world”. We want the time spent at Muskoka Woods in the summer to be a catalyst for young people to think, act, and lead towards making our world a better place.....we aim to be more than just a summer camp.
As an organization, we have committed to “Shaping our World” through various initiatives that we support outside of the regular camp program. We hope that our involvement in the below mentioned programs not only provides opportunities and help to those who need it the most, but is a source of inspiration to our guests.
Project Romania:
It’s quite the scene. Hundreds of guests arriving at Muskoka Woods, contributing to a growing mountain of plastic bags each filled with simple necessities for needy children in Romania. More than 3,000 bags have been distributed to orphanages and children’s hospitals in the country through our mission partner, Impact Romania. Project Romania is a tangible way for young people to make a difference a world away.
Canadian Heroes Program:
Thousands of Canadian troops have served tours of duty overseas - now we are serving them. Sons and daughters of parents in our military get the opportunity to become guests of Muskoka Woods each summer through our Canadian Heroes Program. This program was initiated and funded by the generous donations of Caldwell Financial Ltd., and has been further supported by True Patriot Love Foundation and Canada Company.
Neil Lovatt Memorial Fund:
Since 2002, the Neil Lovatt Memorial Fund has enabled hundreds of youth from at-risk communities to attend camp. Neil witnessed firsthand the impact Muskoka Woods had on his own children’s lives and believed that this experience should be accessible to all kids. This initiative continues to extend the gift of camp to kids from at-risk communities.
CEO
New Orleans Trip:
Through the CEO program at Muskoka Woods, participants are continually trained and challenged to be leaders who make a difference in the world. We believe in extending past the borders of our communities and that sharing our lives and experiences with others can impact not only those we encounter and serve, but also ourselves. We want to give our CEO alumni the challenge, experience and opportunity to serve others in an impactful way. Over the March Break, Muskoka Woods takes CEO alumni to New Orleans to serve. The CEO’s work alongside relief workers, whose mission is to help build homes, restore communities and bring hope to the people of New Orleans who are still suffering from the impact of devastating hurricaines.
Jamie Groves Staff Scholarships:
As a Muskoka Woods staff member, Jamie Groves made a huge difference in the lives of others. Jamie died after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Today our staff remember him by wearing his #15 on our uniforms. Named in his honour, this scholarship fund helps us retain incredible staff who are actively seeking post-secondary education, enabling us to provide a first class, high impact experience for our guests.
