Muskoka Woods Management Team

President and CEO
John McAuley leads the management team in facilitating the Muskoka Woods vision. He also serves as a lead facilitator of The Leadership Studio at Muskoka Woods. An adult learner, John recently augmented his credentials in Organizational Leadership by completing his certification as an Adler Trained Coach. Together, John and his wife Lori have over 36 years of senior leadership experience at Muskoka Woods.


Executive Director
Chris Evans assumed his current role of Executive Director in 2006. Prior to taking on this position, Chris was responsible for overseeing the operations of the summer camp program. Chris has a Bachelor of Commerce in Hotel and Food Management from the University of Guelph and is currently finishing an Executive MBA through the Cornell – Queens program. Chris brings his long-time experience as a camper guest and staff member to his current responsibilities.


Managing Director
Chris Tompkins is the Managing Director of the Summer Camp. Before coming to Muskoka Woods, Chris received a degree in Kinesiology from the University of Guelph, followed by a Teacher’s college degree at the University of Toronto. Chris is currently finishing a Master’s degree in Youth Development from Clemson University. His experience leading youth and young adults in local community, school, church and camp settings has spanned 15 years. He is an avid sports fan who enjoys an afternoon with a big cup of coffee and a good book. Chris resides in Stouffville, Ontario with his wife and young daughter.


Director of Outdoor Recreation
Don Hood. From 1970 to 1975, before Muskoka Woods was Muskoka Woods, Don was working on the same property, then known as Glen Rocks. Born and raised in Toronto, Don attended the Canadian Bible College in Regina Saskatchewan. Though Don began his working career in Toronto, he later made the move northward with his family to Parry Sound, Ontario. In 2002 Don took over as General Manager of Muskoka Woods Resort, responsible for over seeing all aspect of Resort facility and business operations. In January 2010 Don shifted his attention to OREC/Retreats with an intentional focus on business development and oversee capital development for Muskoka Woods. Don and his wife Shawna have three grown children who have all at one time of another also worked for Muskoka Woods.


Chief Financial Officer
Ron Peneycad’s journey at Muskoka Woods began in 1986 as a summer Senior High Counselor. He transitioned into serving as a Section Head and then as the Business Administrator. Reflecting the financial stability of Muskoka Woods, Ron has performed his current role for over 20 years. He has a degree in Finance from the University of Toronto and another in Theology from Tyndale Seminary. Married with three camp-age children, Ron is passionate about the positive impact camp can have on children and teenagers, including his own. He also enjoys reading, traveling, playing tennis and squash.


Director of Marketing
Iain Lovatt first attended Muskoka Woods in 1983 as a camper and attended for 5 summers before joining the summer staff as a Kitchen Supervisor and Waterski staff. Since leaving ski staff, Iain has accumulated over 20 years of experience in youth work and business management. His career began with Young Life in western Canada where he transitioned into full-time church ministry at The Well, an innovative Youth Church. Along the way, Iain co-founded a number of technology companies that focused on youth marketing, internet radio and entertainment. Iain returned to his Muskoka Woods roots in 2002 when he joined the management team. In his spare time, Iain enjoys writing & performing music, the gym and dreaming about how to make the world a better place. Iain is married with 3 children.


Director of Resort Operations
Leslie Brushett has been a part of Muskoka Woods since she was 12 years old. Leslie attended Muskoka Woods as a guest, joined the summer staff when she was 17 and has worked full-time since 1995. In her current role, Leslie seizes the opportunity to serve the summer guests and staff all twelve months of the year. Leslie has a degree in Psychology from the University of Western Ontario, a Certificate in Human Resources from Seneca College and is a graduate of the Arrow Leadership Program. Leslie and her husband Scott have three children.


Director of Risk Management
Tim Duffield has worked in full-time camping for 30 years. The majority of those years have been at Muskoka Woods. He brings a background in forestry, pyrotechnics and turf and restaurant management. Tim’s watchful eye is trained to anticipate what could happen when guests are on site. He loves to sail, snowshoe and build sets for the summer’s creative programs.


Leadership Studio Facilitator
Ellen Duffield’s past experience has equipped her to lead the development of the new Muskoka Woods Leadership Studio. She has been a long term advocate for the leadership role of women and her passion extends to the development of today’s emerging leaders. Ellen recently completed a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership. Ellen and Tim have two grown children and readily parade their grandparent status.
